Following the experience gained in the application of the Code WADA initiated a consultation process in to review the Code. The review process was a fully collaborative process that involved the whole anti-doping community, all of whom sought an enhanced Code that would benefit athletes around the world. The revisions to the Code took effect on 1 January The revision process for the Code began at the end of and, following three phases of consultation over a two-year period, and with 2, changes submitted, the revised Code was unanimously approved on 15 November at the World Conference on Doping in Sport in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The review process for the revised Code has resulted in a stronger, more robust tool to protect the rights of the clean athlete worldwide. To date, more than sport organizations have accepted the World Anti-Doping Code.
Signatories are required to undertake three steps in order to be fully compliant with the Code: acceptance, implementation, and enforcement. Code acceptance means that a Signatory agrees to the principles of the Code and agrees to implement and comply with the Code.
